After Ford unveiled the 2015 Falcon Ute XR6 and Walkinshaw Performance detailed a berserk tune of the Commodore packing 550 kW, HSV hopped in and showcased the new GTS Maloo today. Holden Special Vehicles really outdid itself with this kind of beast, which will be manufactured in just 250 copies.
The limited edition HSV GTS Maloo is all things to all men with a thing for big V8 power and a big truck bed. The 6.2-liter LSA eight-cylinder tower-of-power has been given the supercharging treatment in order to develop a hefty 430 kW (576 horsepower) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed stick shift or optional automatic will take care of delivering that oomph to the 20-inch lightweight rear wheels.
Out of the 250 production run, 240 will head to the Land Down Under, while New Zealand will get 10. Yes, just 10 units. With first deliveries slated to be taken care of this November, you'd better visit the nearest Holden dealer and drop a considerable deposit if you want to have a chance at owning such a machine. Complementing the previously detailed powertrain is a premium braking package made by AP, boasting with 6-piston calipers up front and 372 mm 2-piece rotors at the rear.
But the interesting thing is that the HSV GTS Maloo is fitted with Torque Vectoring, a system that helps reducing understeer by generating a rotational moment in the rear axle when the vehicle is under power. The Maloo’s electronic stability control then detects the understeer event, applies the brakes to the inside rear wheel and transfers torque to the outside rear wheel for improved traction.
The HSV GTS Maloo’s unique daytime running lights, side skirts, twin-hump hard tonneau and performance sail-plane differentiate the model from other HSV bruisers. Shadow-chrome quad exhaust tips and 'LSA' and 'GTS' badges adorning the tail-gate complete the exterior makeover. As for the inside, customers get sports seats dressed in Onyx leather, in addition to an extensive range of amenities.
