There are two new things you’ll observe at the rear of the new Toyota RAV4. First, there is no more spare tire attached to the rear door and second, the actual door got modified to open upwards instead of sideways.
This made possible the addition of an electric operating mode for the hatch, which also enables it to open as much as needed - full way up for loading a big box or just a bit for quickly tossing a bag. Here are a few tips for using it:
You can either use the button on the dashboard, the smart key or a switch on the hatch itself
To use the electric feature, make sure the master switch in the glovebox is in its operating position (pressed)
Open the gate by pressing the dash or key fob button until you hear a tone
To stop the gate at a certain angle, press one of the two buttons again
Press and hold one of the buttons to close the hatch. You can also use the button on the hatch to do so.
