It’s inadmissible to have bad odors in a luxury car like the Lexus LX 470. Even if it’s that old you’re not excused if each time you turn on the AC a smell of rot comes through the vents.
For this not to happen you’ll need to periodically replace the air conditioner’s cabin filter; filters in this case because it has two. But rest relaxed because they’re both placed in one place so there won’t be too much work to do.
OK, all you need for the job is a Phillips screwdriver and the two replacement filters. The filter casing can be found behind the glove box so here’s what you need to do:
Use the screwdriver and remove the two screws located at the very bottom of the glovebox lid
Now, remove the whole glovebox compartment
The glovebox compartment also has a plastic back panel which is still attached to the dash, so take that screwdriver one more time and remove the two screws in its upper part
Good, now carefully pull the back panel out and remove the light bulb connections. The other wire goes for the airbag system so try not to unplug it. Instead, pull the rectangular module towards you, rotate it a bit and push it back through the cutaway so you can remove the back panel
Excellent! You should now see a long, vertical lid somewhere in there, held in place by some tabs. Undo them and take the lid off
Remove the first filter and then take out the other one located beneath it
The replacement filters are identical and they can only be fitted in one way back, so insert the first one down and the other one on top of it
Now put everything back, turn on the AC and enjoy the fresh, smell-less air.
