House of Cars Could Be the All-New Motoring Show Starring Clarkson, Hammond and May

Anyone familiar with House of Cards, the hit political drama series produced by Beau Willimon and aired by Netflix? As it happens, a report published by the Mirror claims that Netflix and ex-Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are in the process of singing a deal for House of Cars.

Despite the similar naming strategy, House of Cars is an inspired name for post-Top Gear Captain Power, Hamster and Captain Slow. You may remember that the boys and executive producer Andy Wilman have been talking to ITV’s higher-ups for a motoring show, but where does that put Netflix and House of Cars?

According to the previously mentioned publication, a source close to the likely lads said: “The headache with ITV is going to be the potential conflicts of interest with advertisers. What would they do if Jaguar or Volvo had a sponsorship deal but they wanted to berate its latest new car? Jeremy doesn’t like being told what to do. It could cause huge arguments.”

Using the Top Gear name is impossible because the BBC owns it. The trio had to change their Top Gear Live tour’s name into Clarkson, Hammond and May Live because of it. Another source told the Mirror:

“if it goes ahead, they’re planning to call it House of Cars, which is just genius.” What's your opinion on this?

I have some mixed feelings due to the phonetical similarity between the two, but heck, if the boys are back in business, the name of the show is the least of our problems. At the end of the day, whoever strikes a deal with Clarkson, Hammond, May and Andy Wilman will draw a tremendous audience.

Editor’s note: the following three videos are teasers of the upcoming dates of the Clarkson, Hammond and May Live tour. They’re just like in the good ol’ days, aren’t they? And on that bombshell... POWEEEERR!
