Honda S660 Kei Roadster Spied Undisguised in Japan

Baby, I’ve shrunk the NSX! Well, almost. What we have here, ladies and gentlemen that love the world of JDM, is the 2015 Honda S660. It’s extremely similar to the concept vehicle that debuted at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, but trust us - this is the production-ready variant.

Spotted by Minkara.CarView.co.jp’s carparazzi in Japan, this is one weird-looking machine for the US or European petrolhead. But compared to the western world, the Land of the Rising Sun has a class of automobiles dubbed kei cars. This is one such car and, on paper, things look rather gnarly.

Not much is known about the mechanicals, but if you take into consideration that the S660 is a full-on kei car, that only means two things: it’s got 64 PS (63 HP / 47 kW) and 104 Nm (77 lb-ft) tops from a 660 cc three-banger turbocharged engine mounted behind the driver, joined by a strict set of regulations for its most important dimensions.

According to the Japanese legislation, a key car can’t be longer than 3.4 m (11.2 ft) and wider than 1.48 m (4.9 ft). That’s the size of an original Fiat 500! Not much is known about the technical side of the 2015 Honda S660 roadster, but the spied two-seater is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. We’re betting that an optional CVT will also be offered by Honda.

As you can also see from Minkara CarView’s spy photographs, the 2015 Honda S660 kei roadster is equipped with 16-inch wheels wearing 195/45 section rubber and disc brakes all-round. Other important details are the almost completely digital instrument cluster, the push-button ignition and a touchscreen infotainment display. Expect production of this lil' scoundrel to start in Japan late this summer.
