Japanese automaker Honda has announced that it will base its Formula One racing effort in Milton Keynes, UK, while engine development and manufacture will take place in Tochigi, Japan.
Honda’s office in Milton Keynes, which is also home to McLaren and other Formula One suppliers, will start operations from June 2014. Honda will participate in Formula One starting with the 2015 season under a joint project with McLaren. The company will supply both engines and energy recovery systems.
“With the confirmation of a new F1 operation base in U.K., our preparation to join F1 has become more specific and concrete. To meet and exceed the expectations of our fans, we will accelerate our development to bring back the unique Honda engine sound onto the track.”
The previous Honda-McLaren alliance, which lasted from 1988 to 1992, has resulted in four constructors' World Championships with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost behind the steering wheel. Will the new team have what it takes to battle for the World Championship once again?
