Honda Develops World’s First Traffic Congestion Detection and Prevention Technology
Honda have been aided in their testing efforts by the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo. After crunching the numbers, they have come up with a 23% increase in the average speed of the vehicles and an 8% fuel efficiency improvement.
The system does not provide the driver with congestion avoidance information, instead it monitors acceleration and deceleration patterns. The system also requires a ‘cloud’ connection which is necessary for the system to sync up with data which is being fed in by other system users.
It sounds promising and with the numbers that Honda claims to have achieved we feel that it is a step in the right direction towards lower commute times and a general improvement in the standard of living in major cities.
