Honda plans to take full advantage of the hybrid vehicle market, so it is currently developing a larger coupe that uses the same technology, as Motor Trend reports.
A Honda insider told the aforementioned source that the upcoming model will have about the same size as the Accord coupe and will be able to accommodate four passengers.
The source added that the car will use a 2.5 liter four cylinder gasoline engine in conjunction to the automotive manufacturer’s IMA hybrid system. The gasoline engine will be specifically engineered for high efficiency in order to maximize the car’s potential. This means that the new car should offer proper sport car performance, leaving the CR-Z behind in terms of dynamic abilities.
Hybrid vehicles really aren’t our cup of tea, but we’d like to see Honda produce a proper sports hybrid, because we are quite disappointed by CR-Z’s performance. The latter’s dynamic abilities wouldn’t have mattered if Honda hadn’t chosen to market the car as some sort of modern incarnation of the CRX. The latter was a front wheel drive sporty compact that entered production in the mid-eighties.
However, we’ll wait until next year, when Honda should reveal a hot version of the CR-Z, before giving a final verdict on the compact hybrid.
