Specifically designed for these markets. The first to have started this trend in recent years were the American producers, but now the booming India, Thailand and China are drawing the attention of the Japanese as well.

At the Royal Paragon Hall in Bangkok, Thailand, this week Honda revealed the Brio, a city car meant to conquer some of the market share currently going Ford's way, for instance, in India, where the Figo is bringing record after record numbers for the Americans.

Built as a small car, smaller even than the Jazz, the Brio comes 3,610mm in length, 1,680mm in width and 1,475mm in height. The model is powered by an engine to match, a 1.2l i-VTEC paired to either a manual 5-speed manual or a CVT transmission. The fuel consumption figures for the model were measured at 5l/100 km.

As standard, the new Brio comes decently equipped, providing its future owner with all the minimum safety and comfort features available in its class: 2 front airbags, disc brakes, ABS and EBD.

“The Brio will meet the driving and lifestyle needs of people who are looking for a stylish and compact, yet spacious and fuel-efficient car that carries a brand that they can trust for its advanced and safety technologies,”
Atsushi Fujimoto, Honda Thailand president, was quoted as saying by fastmotoring.com.

Although the prices for the model have not been announced for all the launch markets, Honda has already said it plans to sell 40,000 units of the model each year, in Thailand alone. Targets for the other markets were not announced.
