Honda has unveiled the prototype for a small-sized vehicle, called the Honda BRIO, developed for the Asian markets and destined for Thai and Indian markets in 2011. The car will make its presence felt at the Thailand International Motor Expo starting November 30, 2010.

The small four-door hatch is being developed as a daily commuter which is easy to use in urban areas. The exterior of the car offers bold, assertive presence for its compact dimensions. Honda is targeting emerging markets, with the production model that will follow the prototype being priced as an entry-level vehicle. In order to keep costs down, Honda will utilize local sources of parts and material, such as sheet steel.

The Thai model, scheduled to be introduced in March 2011, is expected to offer fuel economy figures of more than 5 liters per 100 kilometers (47 mpg). Its low emissions figures will qualify the model as an eco-car by the Thai government. The price is expected to be in the region of THB400,000 ($13,238). Local customers' need for a small car will be reflected, while specific features will be introduced in order to create a model that achieves a good balance between vehicle performance and price.

“Honda would like to expand the joy of mobility to more customers in Thailand, India and other Asian countries through the introduction of a new small vehicle with compact and highly efficient packaging by utilizing our own experiences cultivated by motorcycle business here in Asia,” said Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor.

Honda BRIO Prototype is being developed with Honda’s advanced technologies and its “man maximum, machine minimum” concept of building in mind, thus maximizing the space available for people and minimizing the space required for mechanical components.
