Honda’s main target in Europe right now is probably Nissan, with their successful crossover range. That and the new Civic are going to change the company’s fortuned in a shrinking market.
Besides the new CR-V crossover, the Japanese automaker has something else that of interest at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, and it doesn’t even have wheels. We’re talking about a new engine!
Specifically created to burn less fuel, the new unit in question is a 1.6-litre i-DTEC, the first drive train from Honda’s new Earth Dreams Technology series to arrive in Europe.
The 1.6-liter is a few horsepower down on its rivals at 120 HP, but it makes up for this with impressively low emissions output of 95 grams per kilometer. No word on economy yet, but when it’s introduced to the 2012 Civic next year, we could easily expect sub 4 lt/100km official figures.
