For the 2015 model year, GM's Australian arm has introduced a new top-of-the-range Trax - the LTZ Turbo. Its name suggests what's under the bonnet - a turbocharged iTi petrol mill displacing 1.4 liters with 103 kW (138 ponies) and 200 Nm of torque on tap.
Closely related to the Opel Mokka and Buick Encore, the Australian version of the small crossover comes as standard with a six-speed automatic for added comfort. Mated to this gearbox, the 1.4-liter powerplant is able to return 6.9/100 km (34 U.S. mpg) combined. It may be frugal, but this cheeky subcompact SUV was designed to appeal to the spirited driver thanks to its sporty looks and peak torque delivered from 1,850 until 4,900 rpm.
“The 1.4 litre turbocharged engine provides drivers with even greater levels of refinement and performance, and when combined with the locally tuned chassis and steering, makes for a really fun and enjoyable drive,” declared Jeremy Tassone, Holden’s Vehicle Development Manager. Speaking of which, the same 1.4-liter iTi mill also powers the Barina RS and locally-made Cruze. In addition to the force-fed engine, the 2015 Holden Trax LTZ Turbo also boasts with 18-inch alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers, a power sunroof and a little driver's armrest. To boot, all of these features come as standard.
Aside from those cool fog lights and heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and Sportec detailing, some other bits and bobs that are available for the 2015 Holden Trax LTZ Turbo are the MyLink entertainment system and a suite of chassis systems such as Hill Start Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Brake Assist, as well as a Descent Control System. Holden announced that the all-new LTZ Turbo will hit dealerships later this month, with pricing starting at AUD $29,990.
