What would a Lotus Elise look like if it has more power than the Bugatti Veyron? It’s easy: it would look like the Hennessey Venom GT. And who would buy such an insanely powerful car with no roof? That’s also easy: Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler.
This is it, the big leagues! The first 2012 Hennessey Venom GT has been dynoed at 1244 horsepower and after the latest season of American Idol was done, the rock star took delivery of this insane 1.1 million dollar car from Hennessey’s headquarters.
Right now, this is the only roadster version of the Venom GT, built to order for the musician, but Hennessey’s boss said the lessons learned here will be translated to future products, as the Venom will be offered not only as a coupe, but also as a hardtop and softtop.
We’re here talking about one of the strongest machines still allowed to travel on a regular street and crave for more details about it. Maybe you’re not that curious as we are, but since we’re at it, we may as well look into it further. A twin powers the Venom GT turbocharged 427 cu in (7.0-litter) V8 GM LSX engine with an iron block and aluminum heads including twin Precision dual ball bearing turbochargers.
Uuh, did you say turbochargers? Yep, turbochargers; which means that we’re looking at how much power? Well, the engine produces 1,244 horsepower and 1,155 lb-ft (1,566 Nm) of torque. Now, considering all these numbers, we’re here wondering if Steven Tyler can handle it. I mean we know about his high-energy performances, and his bright, colorful outfits with his trademark scarves hanging from his microphone stand, but we never knew he is that much of a driver.
How was that song again
That kinda lovin'
Turns a man to a slave
That kinda lovin'
Sends a man right to his grave...
