At long last, someone spotted a prototype of the future 2015 Challenger SRT burbling on idle and uploaded a video of it on YouTube. From the way it sounds, the car is most probably powered by the much-anticipated Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V8, said to deliver over 640 horsepower in production form.
As you might know from a previous article on our website, the facelifted Challenger's power output sparked an internal debate in the company. SRT brand chief Ralph Gilles stated that the company may be faced with a difficult situation. Dodge's future Challenger SRT is too close for comfort when compared to the SRT Viper's 640 horsepower generated by its naturally aspirated 8.4-liter V10 unit.
SRT can make two possible choices on this matter: cut the price of the Viper or intentionally downtune the Hellcat V8. Either way, the SRT official said that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT will be revealed in all its glory in around two months. The 2015 Dodge Challenger will also come with reworked versions of the 5.7-liter Hemi and 6.4-liter V8, but there's no word on power updates for the basic V6 yet. The facelifted Challenger will also benefit from a new eight-speed automatic.
Enough with the jibber jabber, it's about time to press play and watch the video uploaded to YouTube by the guys at TheFastLaneCar.com. Don't forget to turn your speakers all the way up to 11! Stay tuned for more info on the subject.
