Half a Million Second Generation smart fortwos Produced

Daimler Group’s division has been struggling to find a foothold in the automotive market with its products, but the fourtwo city car has been soldiering on with the second generation and has managed to scoop up a total of 500,000 sales to customers in its four-year existence.

“Our smart has long since evolved into an icon, which is indispensable in the cities of the world,”
says Dr. Annette Winkler, Head of smart.

And it’s not like deliveries have been slowing, as the automaker can report an increase of 6.6 percent so far this year, from 64,819 in 2010 to a total of 69,073 units. Germany remains the most successful market for the smart, where 20,286 vehicles have been sold since the beginning of the year - an increase of 13 percent. What’s more, sales in August have increased by 141 percent in the Chinese market.
