Gumpert Apollo Sport 2010 Updates to Be Shown at Geneva
The company will showcase two versions of the extreme Apollo Sport hypercar. It will also announce its entrance on right hand drive markets. Gumpert’s labs have developed a new ECU firmware and an improved cooling system for the 4.2 liter twin turbo V8 engine. This increases the unit’s power from 690 HP to 740 HP. The powerplant will be matted to Apollo’s reinforced CIMA gearbox, featuring a TT40e electronic gear system, that has an estimated gearchange time of 40 milliseconds.
The exterior of the car has been aerodynamically improved in order to match the new power level. We hope this means that the Gumpert’s mad look will be even wilder. The hypercar will also feature a redesigned flap-controlled exhaust system
We have to remember that last year, the Apollo Gumpert set a new world record, becoming the fastest street legal car to lap the Nurburgring track, with a time of 7:11.57 minutes on the Nordschleife (subsequently, the record was broken by the Radical SR8LM).
"Although the Apollo demonstrates its strengths above all on the racetrack, with its optimum aerodynamics and resulting breathtaking curve speed, it is largely suitable for day-to-day use, as proved by tests conducted by a number of independent car magazines. We think of the driver and his comfort," Gumpert’s founder and Managing Director, Roland Gumpert, said.
autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
