Guangzhou Cars Registrations Capped at 10,000 Per Month

The city of Guangzhou, a booming center of Chinese industry and economy, the capital of the administrative region of Guangdong, and China’s third largest city with 12.7-million inhabitants is imposing strict limits to the number of cars that can be purchased. According to autnews.gasgoo.com, local authorities will be limiting car purchases to 120,000 per year, which equates to just 10,000 per month.

China will slowly begin to ‘feel’ the effects of the car industry boom, in a bad way, as congestion and pollution levels will rise and then keep rising. The drastic measure, effective as of Sunday, will try to limit these very negative aspects of a booming car car market, as, reportedly, the average commute speed in Guangzhou has been reduced to a mere 20 km/h (12.5 mph) and it is expected to keep falling, as there are already 2.4-million cars in the city.

With such a large population, the number of cars on the road could surge and cause massive gridlock problems in the relatively-near future. Hopefully, the measures taken by the authorities will bring a slight balance to the situation.
