GS Trophy 2014 South African Team Announced
The trials took place during the first August weekend at the Country TRAX, in Mpumalanga, South Africa, under supervision from a team of marshals led by Jan “Staal” du Toit, the master trainer of the TRAX "off-road academy".
With du Toit beings a part of the GS Trophy/GS Challenge for so many years right from the very beginning of the event, it was only natural that the obstacles and challenges the riders had to surmount be at the level of those in the final stage of the competition.
Starting with a night ride, the South Africa GS Challenge had the 16 riders tested for skill, teamwork, endurance, navigation, technical knowledge and leadership, in an environment simulating the real conditions and obstacles the GS Trophy 2014 will put in their way.
The three men who will ride under the South African banner at the GS Trophy 2014 are: Ruan de Lange (Cape Town / R1200GS), Francois vd Heever (Johannesburg / F800GS), Jaco vd Linde (Hartebeespoortdam / F650GS Dakar) and Morné Fitzhenry (Aberdeen in die Karoo! / F800GS) as a reserve.
