Great to see a one-man garage elected in one of the coolest custom contests Yamaha started this year! His name is Greg Hageman and his project is incredibly cool for multiple reasons, of which the first could be the very fact that it is based on the ultra-sweet Star Bolt machine.
Greg's build is so much different than any other similar machines as his dream was to create a bike which Yamaha/ Star could actually build in larger numbers and expand their line-up with a custom version.

Far more than creating a one-off hack&saw bike, Greg aims to offer perpetual rideability, if you get the pun: since he went the scrambler way, it's obvious that his Bolt will not stop where the asphalt does. Where others will just sigh and resign, this beast will abuse the dirty trails with genuine joy.

As Hageman himself says, he wanted to create a bike Steve McQueen would like to be on... and I'd say he's pretty much there. Beefy knobbies and a very tidy, minimalist look, free of the clutter which seldom plagues some bikes, with cross-country-style grilles protecting the headlight and breather, retro-look fork gaiters and a sturdy bash plate, the Hageman Bolt seems to be dreaming about riding hard through a river bed.

Add in the minimalist gauge, aggressive rear fender and ribbed, high-traction grips, plus the ageless side covers for the racing number. As well, seeing that greg ditched the passenger pegs will also put an evil grin on the face of the connoisseur...

Make sure you check the Yamaha Bolt Custom Build-Off contest entries and cast your votes. Remember, this amazing one-man scrambler project can technically be offered as a full kit!
