GreenGT LMP H2 Unveiled, Expected to Run at 2012 Le Mans

Is it just us or are electric cars starting to pop up more and more in the racing world? In Nissan’s case, we can understand that the company wants to prove that the LEAF is just as good as any other regular car by putting in on the track, but one company has developed one such vehicle that has no rear-world application.

A couple of videos showing the GreenGT LMP H2 electric racer doing a demonstration lap at the Le Mans circuit recently have been released. The car is going to take part in an experimental race class at next year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, according to an announcement made by the ACO (Automobile Club de L'Ouest), the association responsible for the Le Mans race.

“After the GreenGT Sprint (2009), the Citroen Servile (2010) and the GreenGT 300 (2011), the Swiss GreenGT company has started the build of a LMP H2 prototype to race at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. Based on an LMP chassis, the GreenGT LMP H2 will be fueled by hydrogen and integrate its own onboard power plant,” the official press release states.

The Swiss-based company will develop the car further in the coming year which will be hydrogen-fueled and hold 12 kg of hydrogen in 700 bar high-pressure tanks. Output on the electric racer is expected to be 300kW or 408 horsepower.

The man behind the wheel will be Christian Pescatori (6 times Le Mans driver, 2 times 2nd and winner of Sebring with Audi R8), who will also be the GreenGT LMP H2’s development driver.
