Green GT Unveils Prototype Electric Racer

Swiss-based group Green GT manages to amaze us once again, presenting a reiteration of its ambitious electric racer. The 300KW Green GT is an evolution of the Le Mans Prototype-style racer that was presented before the media at Le Castellet.

As President of the FIA, Jean Todt himself attended the unveiling of the new all-electric racer at the International Academy for Sports and Technology hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.

The new Green GT's two rear-mounted electric motors develop 300 kW (408 hp), a 50% increase over the previous model, enabling it to reach an astonishing top speed of over 180 mph (290 km/h). The car makes use of an ingenious software-controlled torque-vectoring system that should also improve its cornering ability.

The FIA-spec carbon chassis, which is wrapped in a brand new paint scheme, rides on slick tires mounted to magnesium wheels with huge Brembo brakes fitted to slow the car down.

The two lithium polymer batteries were also improved in terms of storage and discharge capacity, holding 31 kilowatt-hours. They are now cooled by a non-conductive liquid contained in a flame-retardant, crash-absorbing casing made of composite materials derived from aerospace technology.

This one-off prototype might not pose a serious threat to today's internal-combustion Le Mans prototypes, but it could spawn a future track car in the not-so-distant future. A series of tests will be carried out during this winter to validate its performance and endurance. The car, which was developed under a project supported by the team JMB Racing, will make its public appearance shortly afterwards.
