Gordon Murray Reveals Teewave AR.1 Electric Sports Car
Gordon Murray Design and its development partner Zytek Automotive have developed the T.27 City Car that seats three people. However, his new project is much more interesting. We are of course talking about the Teewave AR.1 electric sports car.
This is actually meant as a one-off prototype that’s been developed for Toray Industries, a Japanese supplier that specializes in carbon-fiber components, and is basically an excellent mix between the light-weight material and electric propulsion.
The body of the car looks like a mix between the Tesla Roadster and a smart roadster, with all of the lines and proportions being created inside a computer first.
The back wheels are powered by the same motor as the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, which means the AR.1 has only 63 horsepower to play with. However, it promises track-focused double wishbone suspension, ultra quick steering and powerful brakes that should all make up for the shortcomings in power.
The electric sportscar also has remarkably low weight of just 850kg (1874 lbs), which makes it about 400 kg (882 lbs) lighter than the Tesla Roadster.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Toray Industries' team on this challenging project. The resultant vehicle weight of just 850Kg achieved using Toray's carbon fibre once again proves that performance through light weight is the most efficient and environmentally friendly way to achieve power to weight targets," said Professor Gordon Murray of Gordon Murray Design.
"Toray is happy to work with the Gordon Murray Design team to achieve Toray's basic concept of an eco-friendly and highly efficient light weight electric concept vehicle, TEEWAVE. It should be viewed as a flagship for embodying our Green Innovation Project in the automotive field," added Toray Industries.
