Golden Livery for Gold-Medalist Alessandro Zanardi in Upcoming Race

BMW’s latest Brand Ambassador and GT3 Racer, Alessandro Zanardi, won two gold medals and a silver on at the Para-Cycling World Championships earlier this week. The performance from the 47-year old driver was most impressive, especially considering who he ran up against.

During the competition held in Greenville, South Carolina, Alessandro was confirmed as one of the best para-athletes in the world, especially in the MH5 category (men’s hand-cycle). Last Thursday he won the team-relay with the Italian national team while on Saturday he defended his world-title in the time-trial event. That wasn’t all though as he also won a silver medal in the road race.

In order to celebrate his recent success, the guys from the BMW Motorsport and ROAL Motorsport, the team he races for in the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series, covered his BMW Z4 GT3 in a special, golden livery with his photo on the side. Needless to say that when Zanardi reach the ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’ near Portimao, Portugal he was stunned.

“I am really touched that all the boys and BMW Motorsport in Munich did this for me. I am speechless, which is definitely unusual for Alex Zanardi. I am so impressed because this is such a great gesture. Now I cannot wait to jump into my BMW Z4 GT3 tomorrow,” Zanardi said after the team had presented him the specially livered car.

“It could be that I drive very carefully this weekend because I don’t want to damage this beautiful baby,” the Italian champion said afterwards, with a twinkle in his eye.

The car will race in the fifth round of the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series at the Portimao circuit starting today until Sunday, with the special livery on, of course.
