The recently launched Chevrolet SS, GM first rear-wheel drive performance sedan since 1996, is already an endangered car after the Detroit-based automaker said it will end all Australian manufacturing by the end of 2017.
Since the VF Commodore-based four-door sedan is assembled in Australia and shipped to the United States, production of the SS is expected to come to a halt once Holden gets the curtains. However, a new report from Car & Driver suggests that GM could move production of the high performance vehicle in the United States.
The source doesn’t offer to many details, but says the SS “will be built in North America under the forthcoming Zeta II platform”. GM’s plan also involves the Chevrolet Caprice PPV (Police Patrol Vehicle), which is also imported from Australia.
We really hope this rumor proves to be true. Especially now that we heard the 2017 Holden Commodore could become a front-wheel drive China-built sedan powered by four-cylinder engines. The Chevy SS is too cool to die, just check out its astonishing exhaust note if you don't know what we're talking about.
