GM To Launch LF3 Engine in 2013: 3.6-Liter Twin-Turbo V6

This story has been giving us quite a few headaches over the past couple of hours. General Motors unintentionally released an internal PDF document with parts VIN numbers for 2014 model year cars. We’ve already told you that it reveals the fact that the Verano will get a 1.6-liter turbo, but since then, the document has been taken down.
No matter, we still have it, and on it is mentioned a new engine called the LF3 and described as "ENGINE GAS, 6 CYL, 3.6L, SIDI, DOHC, VVT, ALUM, TWIN TURBO". So, the unit has a 3.6-liter aluminum block, direct injection, variable valve timing and two turbos.

The engine has not been mentioned rumored before, when it was said that it was a specially developed Camaro concept unit developed with Jay Leno for some sort of auto show. It was rumored to have 420 horsepower, which would put the Ford 3.5-liter EcoBoost to shame. There should be an even smaller 3-liter twin-turbo coming, based on the same block.

If we remember correctly, that’s the engine promised for the ATS-V, which would explain why the “LS3” isn’t shown anywhere else in the document. GM would have marketed that car as a brand new model, not a version of the ATS.
