General Motors has recently filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a brand new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
According to Corvette Forum, General Motors could fit the new transmission in the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, including the upcoming Z07, and high-performance Cadillacs, leaving the eight-speed automatics for its pickup truck range.
The recently-launched 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray can be had with a six-speed automatic transmission or a seven-speed manual gearbox.
Earlier this year, General Motors and Ford have joined forces to develop nine-speed and ten-speed, in both front and rear-wheel-drive configurations, that are said to improve performance and increase fuel efficiency.
