Glock Raises More than €9,000 for the UN

Toyota's Timo Glock donated as much as €9,117 for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), benefiting hungry children around the world, as reported in a press release from the Cologne-based team. The aforementioned sum was raised as a result of the bidding for Glock's special-designed helmet for the German Grand Prix, two weekends ago.

The design of the helmet belonged to seven-year-old Tom Luca Hoffmann, who competed in the Panasonic ‘Kids School' design competition prior to the Nurburgring race and whose work of art was picked by Glock to be imprinted on his helmet. Prior to the German race, it was auctioned online, with the bidding process ending this Sunday.

According to Toyota's official statement, the winning bid was €4,117, which was immediately donated to the WFP. In addition, Glock made a donation of his own, pouring in some extra €5,000 for the UN programme. In total, the sum raised by the German driver after the Nurburgring event was €9,117.

I am really pleased to have been able to help raise money for such a good cause. The work done by the World Food Programme's ‘Fill the Cup' campaign is extremely important and I wholeheartedly support it. We need as many people as possible to know they can contribute to find a solution to hunger,” said Glock, according to Toyota F1.

Further donations for the WFP programme can still be made online, on www.wfp.org. In addition to his contribution to the WFP, Glock also got Toyota's sponsor ALJ to donate its space on the front wing of the TF109 this season to WFP. From now on, Toyota's challenger will feature the “Fill the Cup” logo on its front wing in each of the remaining grands prix in 2009.
