GLA 45 AMG Apparently Laps The Nurburgring in 8:11 Minutes

As it has become the norm with these types of reports, you might want to have a little salt-cellar around while reading the following.

According to the Brits from Auto Express, who recently had a go in the model during its official press launch test drive, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG apparently lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in a staggeringly-quick 8:11 minutes, or just a couple of seconds slower than the slightly lower and heavier A 45 AMG.

Their info is coming from an unnamed Mercedes-Benz insider, so it might as well be the usual British made-up story, especially since even we find it a bit hard to believe that a front-wheel drive-based crossover/SUV could be faster than a Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG (W204) or a BMW M5 (E60) around the Green Hell.

Nevertheless, despite not driving it yet ourselves, most media outlets have praised the “45 AMG” models for their highly-neutral handling and explosive acceleration. Combined with the more Nurburgring-ready higher ground clearance and slightly softer damping of the GLA 45 AMG... maybe it's not that impossible after all. What do you guys think?
