Supercars are getting increasingly complicated, not just because they have to be fast, but because they need to be interesting as well. The young woman in this next video discovers that for herself when she struggles to open the passenger-side door of a McLaren P1.
It’s not the fact that the doors have a scissor action when opening that’s the problem here. She is actually flummoxed by the lack of a conventional door handle, which McLaren got rid of for reduced drag. This just proves that one man’s slippery fish is another man’s complicated sardine can opener.
Before we go on a misogynist rampage, we need to address a few things. This young girl isn’t dating a rich billionaire who has an expensive British hypercar. And it’s not like the P1 is as easy to understand as a pencil either. We believe that she is actually the guy’s daughter, since she seems to address him as ‘father’ in Hebrew towards the end of the video. Everybody knows that kids these days are more interested in the digital world and rarely share their parents hobbies. But come one, it’s a freaking P1, how can you not be interested in that?
Eventually, the driver reaches over and opens the door from the inside. It might have been a good idea if he had at least told her how to open the door to avoid awkward situations like this one beforehand.
