In a recent press conference, the new Ducati Corse Chief Gigi Dall'Igna kind of scared the traditionalist Ducati fans as he declared that all the technologies now present in the MotoGP prototype are disposable if need be.
Dall'Igna mentioned the chassis, the Desmodromic V engine, the 90-degree angle: everything about the actual MotoGP bikes could be instantly tossed in case other solutions offer better results.
The General Manager and Technical Director of Ducati Corse however said that revolution for the sake of revolution is a stupid thing and he did not accept this role with Ducati just to start making unnecessary changes.
Asked whether he plans to make ample changes in personnel, Dall'Igna replied that such dramatic changes are premature. He added that a month or so is still needed to know his new team mates and understand how things among them work.
Gigi Dall'Igna stressed out that a better organizational structure is needed and he will make his best to have all those involved with Ducati Corse, WSBK and MotoGP work closer and communicate better.
The new Ducati Corse chief also said that he noticed severe gaps in internal communication and he is bent to fill them, too.
As to the new bike, Dall'Igna says he has two deadlines. The first one is 6 month or so to start building the new machine and decide on whether the current technologies can be used.
The second one is even more important: 2 years to bring the new Ducati in line with the top bikes. Will he make it? Definitely a matter of "time will tell". So far we know Dall'Igna promoted Paulo Ciabatti to Sporting Director of both WSBK and MotoGP.
