George R.R. Martin Checks Out a Tesla Model X at Tesla Meet in New Mexico

The electric vehicles manufactured by Tesla Motors are the stuff of dreams for most people and the perfect excuse for owners to meet up from time to time. The Tesla Club of New Mexico owners meet up on a monthly basis, and guess what? Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin and his purple-painted Tesla Model S joined their latest get-together.

The 67-year-old novelist and screenwriter drove his electric sedan to Meow Wolf, Santa Fe, to attend the Tesla meetup. It wasn’t a long drive considering that George R.R. Martin decided to move there in 1979 because he is attracted to the culturally vibrant city. In his short break from writing The Winds of Winter (the sixth novel in the Song of Ice and Fire series), George quenched his thirst for all things Tesla with a pint of Guinness dry stout. Check out the third photo in the following gallery for proof.

In the second photograph, on the other hand, we can admire the man’s purple Tesla Model S flanked by two other examples of the EV breed in front of the Meow Wolf robot in Santa Fe. The featured pic is the biggest treat, though, because George appears to be spellbound by a white-painted Tesla Model X. This is puzzling if you consider that George uses WordStar 4.0 on a DOS computer to write A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones. His love-hate relationship with technology extends to his loathe for smartphones.

It’s rather funny when you think about it and about all the technology that goes into a product manufactured by Tesla. The world-renowned novelist and screenwriter hasn’t expressed his intention to change his rear-wheel-drive Model S for the all-wheel-drive Model X, but then again, those Falcon Wing doors could tempt him to do so in the future. The bad news is that the entry-level Tesla Model X 70D starts at $80,000 and the estimated delivery time for new reservations is the latter half of 2016.

For a considerably larger amount of green dollar bills than he paid for the purple-painted Model S, George R.R. Martin could upgrade to an electric SUV that boasts 220 miles (354 kilometers) of range on a full charge, a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h) and a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) time of 6 seconds.
