Giant American automaker General Motors reported global sales totaling 9.8 million units in 2015, a 0.2 increase for the company’s third consecutive year of record sales.
As GM President Dan Ammann stated, “GM continued to grow in 2015 as our focus on the customer and successful new vehicle launches more than offset the challenging conditions in South America and the curtailment of our presence in certain markets such as Russia.

In North America, GM delivered 3.6 million cars, trucks and crossovers, 6 percent more than in 2014. In the U.S., the automaker grew its retails sales faster than any other of its rivals.

In China, the American company managed to match the sales figures from its home market, and it delivered a record 3.6 million units, up 5 percent compared to 2014. In the previous year, its line-up also expanded by the introduction of 12 new and revamped models. SUV deliveries grew by 144 percent, mostly thanks to new models such as the Buick Envision and Baojun 560.

In 2015, GM cars, trucks and crossovers led the automotive sales in key markets, including China, North America and South America.

The American carmaker wants to keep the momentum going and has some major product launches underway around the world, for example, the Opel Astra with more than 80,000 orders across Europe, or the new Chevrolet Malibu in North America that already hit the showrooms at the end of last year.

Chevrolet has been the best-selling brand from GM’s portfolio, with total sales up 5 percent to more than 2.1 million cars, trucks and crossovers. In Canada, sales grew by 3 percent and in Mexico by 18 percent. In the local market, Chevy sold 6 percent more vehicles compared to 2014.

Buick set a global sales record for the third year in a row, due to record figures in China and impressive crossover deliveries in the U.S.. The carmaker sold more than 1.2 million vehicles.

Record sales in China and the substantial growth in SRX and Escalade deliveries in the U.S. helped Cadillac to grow globally by 8 percent.

GMC enters its sixth consecutive year of sales gains, and thanks to new and significantly refreshed vehicles, deliveries increased 11 percent to 680,000 units.

Opel/Vauxhall recorded its best sales result in four years, having delivered more than 1.1 million cars, despite its departure from the Russian market. The automaker did well in Europe too, as the share vehicle market increased for the third year in a row to nearly 6 percent.
