Geely Debuts Di Hao Sedan
The full list of specifications is yet to be unveiled, but the 1.8-liter CVVT engine is developed by GETEC, Geely's engine research division. What's more interesting is that the Chinese firm partnered with an European company to develop the powerplant in order to achieve better fuel consumption and emission figures without altering power or torque. Thanks to these efforts, the powertrain is capable to improve fuel efficiency by 5 percent to 6.5l/100km (36.2 mpg).
According to the aforementioned source, the newly-launched model will be priced at 82,800 rmb (approximately $12,120) for the entry level. Features and trim levels will be released at a later date.
Geely's Di Hao represents an entirely new lineup of models, with several other versions, besides the sedan, expected to be released in the near future. As the engine is already compliant with Euro V regulations, Geely might also consider bringing the model in American and European markets. Still, such a plan and a preliminary date for this to happen are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, Geely is striving to takeover the Swedish unit Volvo whose owner, Ford, announced it plans to get rid of the ailing carmaker by December. Geely has already hinted that it is ready to offer up to $2 billion for Volvo but rumors are indicating that Ford plans to delay the sale until more suitors are showing interest for the brand.
