Full Color HUD for Future Bimmers
- BMW to provide second gen HUD for the next 5 Series
- The new HUDs will be available in full color
- Much more information can be displayed on the new HUDs
Still, HUD's most fervent advocate, German manufacturer BMW, is reportedly already working on the second generation of the technology, one which may provide much more information, in many more colors.
According to a report by automobile-magazine.fr, BMW is looking into providing future HUDs with the full range of colors, and this only for starters. The next step into HUD development is to make it provide the driver with much more information that it currently does.
So, apart for the speed, for instance, the new HUDs will be able to give the driver all the info he/she needs in terms of navigation instructions, road signs and speed limits and even the screen of the driver's mobile phone. The advantages of such a system are obvious, as the driver will no longer be required to take his/her eyes from the road in order to check the speedometer or the GPS.
The first vehicle to get such a system is said to be the next generation 5 Series. Apparently, the new HUD will also be available in 3D. The increased amount of information will call for a bigger HUD, which some speculate will be called Head Up High (we reckon that's unlikely).
