The Porsche 918 Spyder world premiere didn’t need any drum rolls and that’s because the company announced a new Nurburgring record together with the launch. As we reported earlier today, the hybrid hypercar lapping the Nordschleife in 6:57.

For those wondering, Walter Rohl was there, but he was just a part of the three-man team that placed the 918 Spyder on the top spot of the Green Hell. And to answer another question, no, the 918 Spyder still hasn’t beaten the barely street-legal Radical SR8.

McLaren is working overtime to take their P1 under the seven-minute barrier these days, so they’re probably not throwing any party right now.
