Born in Essex, United Kingdom, in January 1944, Briton Sir Nicholas Scheele is one of the most highly regarded executives in recent automotive history. Unfortunately, the Blue Oval announced that Nick, aged 70, has died on July 18th from natural causes.
After Scheele finished studies at the University of Durham, he immediately joined the Ford Motor Company after graduating, in 1966. After Nick served in several senior purchasing appointments in Ford’s British and European operations, the man moved to the United States in 1978. Thanks to its fluency in Spanish, Scheele became president of Ford of Mexico in 1988, where he directed the Blue Oval's manufacturing and marketing operations.

During that era, Ford owned British sports car manufacturer Jaguar. After his stint in Mexico, Sir Nick Scheele was appointed chief executive officer of Jaguar Cars Ltd. in 1992, a position he held until 1999. After the British adventure, Nick headed the Blue Oval's European division from 2000 through 2001, after which he assumed the role of president and chief operating officer of the Ford Motor Company from October 2001 until he retired in 2005.

Survived by his wife, Ros, and children Paul, Hannah, Jim and five grandchildren, the executive chairman of the Ford Motor Co., Bill Ford, has declared that Nick "was an outstanding leader whose global experience and passion for our products served Ford Motor Company at a critical time. His impressive career spanned more than 38 years, including three years as our president and chief operating officer working alongside me."

"Not only did Nick help us overcome many challenges at the time, he mended relationships with our dealers, our suppliers and our employees, and set the stage for many of today’s leaders who are moving us forward. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time,”
Bill Ford concluded.
