Ford’s 1.0 ECOboost - Off to a Flying Start in Europe
Europeans have really taken a liking to the unit, which comes in two versions, with 100 or 125hp, both coupled to six-speed manual gearboxes as standard. When it comes to the Focus, the engine was most appreciated in Switzerland, where 60% of all cars came equipped with the 1.0 ECOboost, being followed by Greece with 37%, the Netherlands with 35%, Germany and the UK with 28% and Spain, France and Italy with between 16% and 18%. This accounts to roughly 23.3% of new Focus-es being sold with the 1.0-liter engine - a very impressive feat.
The engine has proved so successful, that Ford officials may be thinking of also exporting it to the US, under the hood of the Fiesta, replacing its outdated 1.6-liter 100hp petrol engine. We hope to get a chance to test this engine soon, to provide a more detailed description of it.
