As for the technical figures, the 2.0-liter TDCi engine generates a maximum power of 115 PS and releases around 139 grams of CO2 per kilometer, according to official figures sourced from Ford. Mated to a six-speed transmission, the engine achieves a fuel consumption rating of 54.3 mpg (5.2l/100 km)- it could go as high as 64.2 mpg (4.4l/100 km) in highway cycle which translates into a driving range of 800 miles (1,290 km).
There are several other features contributing to reducing emissions, including low-rolling resistance tiers and optimum gearchange indicator, as well as sports suspension, air deflectors and a rear spoiler. In terms on interior features, the new Mondeo comes with dual-zone automatic temperature control, Bluetooth connectivity with voice control, cruise control, seven airbags and Quickclear heated front windscreen.
“Running costs are driving purchase decisions, but customers do not want to compromise to achieve low ownership costs,” explains Mondeo brand manager, Jon Gunn-Smith. “More people than ever are recognising that ECOnetic delivers the right balance for them – and more Mondeo customers have opted for ECOnetic in the first five months of 2009, than in the whole of 2008.”
Pricing for the new Mondeo 2.0-liter ECOnetic starts at 20,145 pounds but will be increased as the buyer adds new options or feature packages to the standard versions.
