"These new commercial vehicles demonstrate our 'One Ford' strategy by harnessing the best of our global products, adapting our existing resources to new market opportunities and combining innovative technologies to better deliver on the needs of our customers and end-users," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas.
The first is the 2010 Transit Connect, which we already reported on at the end of February. The best features are most likely a fuel economy of 22 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg in highway cycle, which are considered best fuel consumption ratings in the class. These are achieved thanks to a Duratec 2.0-liter I-4 engine and a four-speed automatic overdrive transaxle.
Available in multiple window configurations from solid side and cargo doors, to both side and rear windows for maximum visibility, the Transit Connect will go on sale this summer starting at $21,475 including destination fees.
Second on the not-so-long list is the 2011 Ford F-59 Super Duty commercial stripped chassis, available on a variety of wheelbase lengths and GVWR capabilities.
Major features include gas-pressurized Bilstein shock absorbers, fitted to both front and rear suspensions, heavy-duty front track bar standard on the 22,000 pound GVWR chassis, and the 6.8-liter Triton V-10 gas engine, combined with the TorqShift five-speed automatic overdrive transmission.
According to a press statement, the F-59 Super Duty stripped chassis will be available in January, 2010, and is produced in a dedicated facility in Detroit. Final pricing is not yet known.
Last on the list is the new E-Series Ambulance Preparation Package, available in van or cut-away configurations. Powered by the same 6.8-liter Triton V-10 gasoline engine as the 2011 Ford F-59 Super Duty commercial stripped chassis, Ford says the new offering significantly lowers the cost of ambulance acquisition for private and municipal customers alike.
The E-Series gas Ambulance Prep Package will be available for order later this year.
