Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan Recalled for Risk of Wheel Separation
"The wheel studs may fracture, potentially causing a wheel to separate," said NHTSA in its recalls announcement. "While driving, multiple stud fractures could occur at the wheel location, and the operator may experience vehicle vibration and/or wheel separation, increasing the risk of a crash."
Those cars that came with alloy wheels have not been announced to suffer from the potential flaw. According to Ford, as of September 30th, one front wheel separation had occurred and five rear wheel had come off. The recall should begin January 24, and owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
