The Ford Fiesta ST has been named the Best Performance Car in the inaugural UK Car of the Year Awards, whose winners are decided by a panel of British journalists, as well as contributors to national newspapers, consumer and industry magazines, websites and TV.
Also praised by Top Gear, who proclaimed it the overall car of the year, the Fiesta ST has been described as “a riot to drive” by Sunday Post’s Alisdair Suttie. “It has all of the everyday versatility of any other Fiesta and it still manages to cost less than the competition. This is hot hatch perfection,” he added.
Powered by a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower, the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 139 mph (224 km/h) and returns 47.9 miles per gallon on the UK cycle.
Priced from £17,245, the Fiesta ST comes with standard performance-tuned steering, suspension and brakes, Torque Vectoring Control, Ford MyKey, SYNC with Emergency Assistance connectivity and Recaro sports seats.
In the United States, the 2014 Fiesta ST starts from $21,400 and returns an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 26 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.
In Europe, the Ford Fiesta ST competes against the Renault Clio RS and the Peugeot 208 GTi.
