The competition in the A-segment on the other side of the Atlantic is a tough battle fought mainly between Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo.
As sales figures come in for the first six months of 2015, we have a winner and that winner (for now) is the Fiesta.
If we are to use some figures to illustrate that, you need to know customers purchased 173,999 Fiestas in Europe between January and June 2015.
This volume accounts for a 3.6 percent increase compared with the same period in 2014.
In June alone, sales of the Ford Fiesta supermini went up by 22.3 percent compared to the performance registered in June 2014, which translated into 33,646 Ford Fiesta models sold in this particular month alone.
“Europeans love small cars and they have extremely high standards – so we are proud Fiesta remains at the top of the rank,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “Customers now have the widest ever choice of Fiesta models including the enhanced Fiesta ECOnetic and fashionable new colour options such as Silver Silk.”
Overall, the Fiesta was also the number two selling car in Europe between January and June this year. Such performance is no doubt due to the brand's 1.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre TDCi diesel mills, which are very popular on the Old Continent.
Nonetheless, awards like the most reliable eco car for the Fiesta ECOnetic coupled with constant refreshments for the range have made the Fiesta a very desirable car. Also, there's the incredibly fun Fiesta ST involved, although sales for the hothatch are not skyrocketing at this moment.
