Established 56 years ago, the Dallas Cowboys is the sole NFL team to boast 20 winning seasons on the trot (1966 to 1985). Furthermore, Forbes had valued the professional football team at $4 billion last year, which means that the Dallas Cowboys stand at the top of the financial ledger of the National Football League.
The Dallas Cowboys, then, are for the NFL what the Ford F-Series is to pickup trucks. Surprisingly, this parallel has recently turned to fruition with a limited run of the F-150. According to the Ford Motor Company, only 400 examples of the Dallas Cowboys-branded workhorse will ever be made.
But isn’t the first time Ford enhances the F-150 with Cowboys design motifs. “It has been 22 years since Ford and the Dallas Cowboys offered a Cowboys edition F-150,” explains Greg Wood, Ford Dallas area regional sales manager, referring to the 1994 Ford F-150 Dallas Cowboys. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the opening of the Ford Center at The Star and the beginning of a new Cowboys season than to offer fans of both F-150 and the Dallas Cowboys the opportunity to purchase one of these incredible trucks.”
Based on the Ford F-150 XLT with the Chrome Package, which is the most popular truck in Texas, the limited run model is painted in a silver hue that resembles the helmets of the Dallas Cowboys. Besides the color, the special edition Ford F-150 is further enhanced with star badging on the doors and tailgate, blue-white-blue rocker panel striping, and many other goodies that set this truck apart from others, even a personalized plaque.
My favorite add-on of the entire lot is the heavy-duty cargo bed mat with the iconic Dallas Cowboys star logo applied to it. On sale at select Texas Ford dealers, the limited run F-150 can be had with the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 with E85 flex-fuel capability. The Ford-developed powerplant is rated at 385 HP and 387 lb-ft (525 Nm), enough grunt for cruising and towing.
