Ford has confirmed that the Cobra Jet program will continue into the sixth-generation Mustang, while Jesse Kershaw revealed that development for a 2015 Cobra Jet is already underway.
“Our goals remain the same for next year as they are every year, produce a competitive product at a price that is a value for the racer. We want to ensure this program is here to stay,” Kershaw told Hot Rod last week.
However, the Blue Oval company declined to say whether or not it will be based on the new 2015 Mustang platform, which makes the guys over at Hot Rod speculate that the new Cobra Jet could use a Taurus platform or even a rear-wheel drive configuration of the all-wheel drive Fusion.
As a reminder, the 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet is built in only 50 units and starts at $97,990. The track-prepped car comes with the company’s familiar 5.0-liter TiVCT V8 engine and a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger on top.
