Fist Peugeot iOn Delivered in the UK

The first Peugeot iOn in the UK to be sold commercially was handed over today to EDF Energy, one of the country’s leading producer of low carbon electricity, for use as a fleet vehicle. It is also the first vehicle to be granted the £5,000 ($7,980) OLEV incentive for the introduction of electric vehicles.

“We are delighted to add the first Peugeot iOn in the UK to our fleet. It fits in perfectly with our ambitions to provide low carbon solutions. EDF Energy, Britain’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, fully supports the development of electric vehicles and believes the take-up of clean, electric transport to be crucial to Britain meeting its carbon reduction targets. This is why we are playing a leading role in the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” said Eric Salomon, Energy Field Services Director at EDF Energy.

EDF energy is involved in a number of projects that involve electric vehicles, helping it achieve its position as a market leader for recharging solutions and the supplier of choice for customers wanting electric vehicles, including battery electric vehicles, plug in hybrids and extended range vehicles.

“Sustainability is at the heart of EDF Energy and initiatives like this will help us meet the targets set when we announced our Sustainability Commitments, one of the biggest packages of environmental and social measures announced by any British energy company,” Solomon also stated.

Peugeot’s electric car offers a four-seat configuration and has a potential range of about 93 miles (150 km). It can be charged from a standard domestic plug in around six hours, or via a quick charger in under an hour.
