Fisichella Involved in Minor Traffic Crash in Italy

Formula 1 drivers – former or who are currently competing in the series – don't usually make the headlines on local or national newspapers as a result of traffic crashes. What they usually do is go over the speed limit or do some burnouts to impress the audience (if present) or to have fun.

Neither was the case with F1 veteran and current tester for Ferrari, Giancarlo Fisichella, who was involved in a minor traffic crash just outside of Italy's capital Rome.

According to reports in the Italian media, cited by the GMM news agency, the 52-year old Roman was driving a Ferrari (no questions there) in the region of Campagnano, north of Rome, when he rear-ended a small car driven by a 52-year-old woman. She was taken to the hospital for medical checks immediately but was discharged shortly afterwards.

According to Fisichella, who talked to the Italian traffic police Polstrada after the accident, he came across a long queue of traffic caused by road works and was not able to stop in time. Meaning he was the one guilty for causing the accident.

This is not the first time Fisichella was involved in a traffic incident in Italy, although this is the first time he ended it with a crash. Back in 2005, when he was caught by the Italian police speeding – he was doing 148 km/h (92 mph) in a 60 km/h (37 mph) zone – he explained that his son had a fever and had to rush to his home.
