First Skoda Yeti Assembled

Yeti will hit the streets. Not the monster, the car.

The first VW Tiguan based Skoda Yeti is said to have been assembled at the Kvasiny plant, in the Czech Republic, ekonom.ihned.cz reported. The new 4x4 is a small SUV designed to compete with the Suzuki Jimny and Nissan Qashqai rather than the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

As with the Skoda Roomster, the Yeti will combine the front body structure of the Fabia and the rear body and axle of the Octavia. The new model will be equipped with 1.6l and 2.0l petrol engines, as well as VW's 1.9l turbo-diesel.

The model uses the same Fabia-derived suspension, brakes and transmission as the Roomster mini-MPV. From the exterior standpoint, the front part is dominated by large headlamps and fog-lights. Visibility is largely increased thanks to thin A-pillars, which are also used to house the wipers when in rest position.

Despite financial setbacks that rock the auto industry, it seems that Skoda Yeti's production keeps on track, even if with a slight delay.

First set to make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show and planned to enter showrooms sometimes in May, it is now said that series production will begin in the second leg of the year. The new SUV will not be marketed until its official unveiling at the Frankfurt Show.

Skoda has set a production target for the new model at 55,000 units per year. It remains to be seen. The Yeti is part of Skoda's plan of increasing its fleet. So far, besides Yeti and Roomster, plans are made for a small Smart-like city car and a seven-seater MCV.
