Twin clutch transmissions are still believed to be the way of the future when it comes to shifting gears. CVT technology is good, but we still like knowing that cogs are doing the work, not belts.
If you're like us and like town clutch, you're going to love Fiat. You can't buy an Alfa Romeo in the US yet, but you can have a transmission just like the one on the MiTo on the new Fiat 500L.

Just like VW's DSG, the TCT box fitted to this minivan has two clutches, one for odd and one for even numbered hears. The result is that the next cog is already engaged and spinning when you want it.

Quicker gear changes aren't the only benefit. Because a computer rows the gears much faster than a human can, you're always in the optimal one for fuel consumption. An automatic does that too, but TCT will sap less power from the engine and also has a manual mode which is useful for overtaking or descending a steep hill in the winter.
