"A car floating on a river? What could possibly go wrong?" That is, in brief, how the brainstorming session must have gone at the Vilnius (Lithuania's capital) PR company responsible with organizing the launch event for Fiat's facelifted 500 model.
They did take precautions, after all. The car isn't really a car, but a body of the facelifted Fiat 500 bolted onto the glass fiber hull of a boat. "But wait, won't people see there's a boat underneath?" "Oh, Vladimiras is right" "Wait," said Vitalijus, "I know: we'll make the hull really narrow, so it doesn't stick out from under the car's body." And everyone agreed Vitalijus saved the day.

That is until the actual launch took place.

With the risk of sounding horribly misogynistic, the first thing that pops into your head when you see a Fiat 500, facelifted or not, half sunken in a river bed, is that its woman driver wasn't as careful as she should have been. It's just one of those thoughts you know is wrong and makes you a bad person, but you can't help it. It is a turquoise little city car we're talking about (even the fact I know what that color is called make me feel emasculated).

But that's not what happened here. According to the person who sent in the video, the "car" was supposed to float down the river to where the event was taking place. Because of Vitalijus' great idea, the poor Fiat 500 shell inevitably tipped over and started taking water. The catamaran tried pulling it, but it only made things worse. In the end, some young men had to jump in and help turn the Fiat 500 the right side up.

The car-shaped boat was eventually pulled to the side of the river where it lied in wait for a crane to pick it up. The aftermath of the whole ordeal is clearly seen on the car's roof that has now received more facelifting than all the rest of the car combined.

As for Vitalijus, we really hope for his own sake that they had a backup plan. Or at least a second car they could show; otherwise, it must have been a very awkward event, just like when a birthday boy or girl were missing their own parties.

Have a look below and be amused. For a real laugh, watch it at double the speed with the "Yakety Sax" as soundtrack.
