Remember Natalie Portman’s motion picture debut that saw Jean Reno playing Leon, a professional hitman? Well, the same person who directed the famous crime thriller also was in charge of Scarlett Johansson’s 2014 science fiction action film, Lucy. Now, the governing body of Formula One has commissioned the same filmmaker with an ad that speaks about the dangers faced by kids crossing roads in the wrong way.
Believe it or not, according to World Health Organization figures, 500 children are killed each day in road crashes globally. In an attempt to stop this concerning aspect, President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Road Safety turned to the world renown film director an impressive visual message.

Aside from raising awareness on road safety, the video you can see above also encourages people to sign the “Child Declaration”. The video is part of a campaign coordinated by the UN Global Road Safety Collaboration called #SaveKidsLives.

It was launched during the Third United Nations Global Road Safety Week and is now calling for Governments worldwide to commit to take action at the upcoming Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety which will be held in Brasilia from 17 through 19 November.

The purpose of this so-called declaration is to get as many people to sign, thus proving their support to immediate action. What exactly are they going to do, you ask? Well, according to those running the campaign it does so by:

-highlighting the plight of children and the vulnerable on the roads;
-generating worldwide action to ensure better our safety on the roads, starting with children;
-calling for firm commitments save lives on the roads in the post-2015 development agenda.

Furthermore, the campaign operates on the principles of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and is managed by a broad coalition of members of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration.

There’s a lot of PR talk on it, but the numbers are indeed worrying so perhaps immediate action should be taken.
